The NATRC Virtual Mileage Challenge is now open for enrollment.

This fun and exciting riding challenge is open to current NATRC members who join Top Trail (see details below).

The virtual challenge features 4 leaderboards that will be live January 1 through December 31st:

  • National Rider
  • National Horse & Rider
  • Regional Rider
  • Regional Horse & Rider

Leaderboards automatically update as ride tracks are posted. So — post your tracks as soon as possible after each recorded ride is complete and at least within 3 days (see Top Trail Challenge Rules). All ride tracks are subject to audit at the conclusion of the challenge and disqualified tracks will result in the loss of mileage and may affect the final results.

Posting Your Ride Tracks

Rides are recorded with GPS app or handheld device and posted to Top Trail within 3 days of the conclusion of each ride recorded. When a ride (GPX file generated by the GPS app or device) is posted, the mileage is automatically added to the member’s account and reflected on the leaderboard for the virtual ride challenge.

What you use to record your ride tracks is up to you — but — you must be able to export your ride track as a GPX file (.GPX) because it has all the date, time, mileage, and points that Top Trail needs to extract your mileage, maps, etc. for your account and all our fun leaderboards.

Some popular GPS apps are: GAIA GPS, EasyTrails, ViewRanger… there are many options but it is up to you to ensure that #1 you know how to use it, #2 you know how to access & download your GPX file to your computer or your phone, and #3 you know how to post it to your Top Trail account. Click here for a list of resources.

At the conclusion of the virtual challenge, results will be audited and final results will be provided to NATRC. Final results, once approved by NATRC, may be published on www.toptrailhorse.com under the “News” portion of the website.

Group Rules

  • Must be a current member of NATRC (all levels of NATRC membership qualify).
  • All riding activities may be recorded and posted with the exception of indoor arena riding or anything indoors.
  • Top Trail General Challenge Rules apply
  • Have fun! Spend time with your equine(s) and enjoy the great outdoors!

Yes there is a bit of set up involved, but once you’re set up, know how to use your GPS (and remember to start, stop & save) & post your rides, it’s a piece of cake! Of course, Top Trail is here to help you. If you should ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to shoot us an email.

  1. Would it be possible to change the 3 day posting rule to 10 days. Working very full time, personally I find it is often really hard to do a competition, or other ride all weekend, travel home and then have to log into the computer to load miles within the 72 hours limit.

    1. Hi Helen!!

If you would like to explore faster, easier ways to post your rides, please let me know.
Thanks! Appreciate your long-time involvement with Top Trail!

    2. There are places we go riding that there is no cell service to upload. We are off grid for 5-6 days.

      1. I don’t know if you’re a member of Top Trail, but if you are, you would still be able to post those rides & the miles would count toward your lifetime & annual mileage.
